Brighton and Hove’s Green Council has pledged to continue fighting against the forced academisation of Moulsecoomb Primary
Brighton and Hove’s Green Council has today reaffirmed its commitment to the Hands Off Moulsecoomb Primary Campaign, as news that three new academy sponsors are being considered.
The campaign will relaunch with an online public meeting on Wednesday 10th March, where Green Councillor Hannah Clare will speak alongside unions, parents, councillors and MPs.
Councillor Hannah Clare, Chair of the Children, Young People and Skills Committee commented:
“We will continue to fight for Moulsecoomb Primary as the Regional Schools Commissioner continues to go against the wishes of parents, staff and the wider community.
“The Government’s failed academisation policy hasn’t worked – and yet they continue to force it upon communities against their wishes. Moulsecoomb Primary is a good school, valued by many – that never deserved the damning report it got.
“As the city council leadership, we will do everything we can to fight this unjust action.”
Councillor Sarah Nield added:
“The time is now to join the fight against the forced academisation at Moulsecoomb Primary.
“With 96% of parents saying they did not want the school to become an academy, it is clear the Regional Schools Commissioner, and the Secretary of State, need to be reminded of our strength of feeling.
“We will continue to urge the Government to revoke the academy order.”
