“Our city – and our whole world – is in this together”

Dear residents,

Covid-19 is causing a lot of anxiety, especially for older residents and those with underlying conditions, many of whom we have been in touch with already. Locally, Green Councillors are working cross-party to support the council’s response to the pandemic: now more than ever, we repeat our commitment to the values of mutual aid and solidarity. The coronavirus won’t ask where we are from, or who we are: it will affect all our communities. Our city – and our whole world – is in this together.

We know that the impact of the pandemic will be felt hardest by those who are already vulnerable. Councillors can connect people to local services and council support, promote and support existing community groups, foster community action and follow up concerns with council services on your behalf. Please contact us if you, or anyone you know needs this advice.

Nationally, the Green Party has called on the Government to adopt a Coronavirus Solidarity Pact, to ensure extensive protections and security for the vulnerable. The Government can and must do more, and we will not stop lobbying for urgent support.

Around our city, we’ve seen amazing community spirit. We want to thank our incredible staff in public health, emergency services and social care, carers, communities and all who are helping residents.  In our proudly international city, many people will have friends and family who have already seen so much suffering. Our hearts go out to you. Everyone has the right to feel safe, and at this time, urgent action is needed to protect the vulnerable.

Green Councillors will continue to work hard for you, and we stand with you all.
