Green city councillor Steve Davis on openness and transparency in Brighton’s council-run services

In his regular column for the Brighton Argus newspaper Green councillor Steve Davis calls for more transparency from Brighton & Hove’s Labour-controlled council on a workplace bullying culture in the city’s street cleaning services.

Steve highlights two areas where Labour are falling short: the recent report into workplace bullying and other problems at the city’s council-run refuse service Cityclean, where he says that the references to alleged political interference need to be scrutinised and addressed.

Secondly, the council budget, where he writes that Labour did not publish the draft papers until the last possible minute, giving residents, community groups, unions and opposition councillors little time to study the proposals and suggest alternatives.
