Your Goldsmid team
Andrew, Amanda and Matthew
Your Green Councillor:
Amanda sits on the Children, Young People & Skills committee and is also on the Corporate Parenting Board. A parent living in the Goldsmid area, Amanda also runs her own business. She is a trained nutritional therapist and teaching assistant. She said “I stood as a candidate after being inspired by the work the Greens have done in the area. I hope to continue this work and be an effective community representative”. She feels Goldsmid is a vibrant, beautiful and interesting area. Its green spaces need to be celebrated and protected for further generations. A huge demand for housing in the area presents an interesting problem, one she intends to make a priority. She said “I also hope to work alongside charities offering health and emotional support to those who are in danger of becoming or have been victims of abuse and disempowerment”.
Your Green team in Goldsmid is:
Andrew is a hands-on person with technical background and bags of enthusiasm. After joining the Green Party in the build up to the local elections he immediately got involved in the local area. As a computer engineer he has also helped many companies within Sussex make improvements. He has a keen interest in Green initiatives on energy and the environment as well as being progressive with a social conscience. Describing himself as an engineer through and through he has a working knowledge of many disciplines and always looks for workable solutions to problems believing that informed decisions and solutions should be based on clear information, open to all. As a father of two he understands the issues of parents and believes children and youth of today need to be as well represented as any other section of society. He is impressed at the Level’s redevelopment and encourages improvements to recreational spaces for all the city’s residents. Andrew is an active campaigner and has been heavily involved in local community events with the Greens, such as Pride.
Matthew is a long term supporter of the Green Party who has worked very hard in the local area to build community resilience both as a service manager with a third sector humanitarian organisation and previously as a Probation Officer. As a parent of four daughters, one with Down’s Syndrome, he has a keen understanding of the challenges faced by parents in Goldsmid and the need to protect our children and adult services in the face of further national government cutbacks. Matthew is very passionate about tackling issues related to hate crime and discrimination by working together in partnerships across political divides to protect the more vulnerable in our community. He is particularly proud of the first Green administration’s success of introducing the living wage and attracting over £100m much needed external investment into our city. Matthew is passionately committed to protecting children and adult services from funding cuts, for the benefit of all Goldsmid residents. Matthew, like Andy has also been invloved in many community events and is an active camapaigner, passionate about resident engagement.
