Green councillors today are delighted to be attending the Brighton & Hove Older People’s Awards ceremony, to recognise and reward the fantastic contributions that older people make to our City.
The event, run by local community organisation Impact Initiatives, is being held to mark the UN International Day of older Persons, and will present awards in categories such as “biggest contribution to the community” and “celebrating grandparents”.
The event is one of a series of inter-generational events being run by Impact Initiatives to celebrate the day, from a photography exhibition to sports and social events.
Green Councillor Phélim Mac Cafferty, who will be attending the event, said:
“I’m delighted to be a part of this event which recognises and rewards some of the fantastic older people and groups in the city. There are almost 40,000 older residents in Brighton & Hove [1], many of whom play vital roles as volunteers, employees, artists, educators, carers and grandparents, to name just a few.
“I know from the fantastic work of Brunswick Older People’s Project in my ward the crucial role of services which help our older people overcome isolation. Our focus must remain how we help our older people improve their wellbeing, learn new skills and enjoy good food and company. It’s really important that in our city we take the time to celebrate the older generation and help them play their fullest part in society too.”
The award ceremony will be held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole at 4pm.
