Ian was first elected in 2007 following a successful career outside politics, first in IT and then in the community and voluntary sector, where he started and ran a local cycle training charity.
He serves as chair of the new Transport committee following the council's reversion to the committee system.
Ian is passionate about transforming this city into a place with safer streets and clean air.
When in opposition as a councillor, Ian served as group transport spokesperson and was a member of the Planning, Licensing and Housing Management committees.
He is pleased to have played a part in the battle to bring forward the planning application for the Open Market which he sees as key to the future of London Road and The Level.
Ian has also been active in community campaigns in Hove including the campaign to stop the Portland Hotel becoming a lap dancing venue.
He is married with two teenage children and has lived in the city for 30 years.
Ian stood as the Green parliamentary candidate for Hove in the 2010 general election.
