Ben Duncan

Councillor Ben Duncan

Queen's Park ward

  • Audit & Standards Committee
  • Council
  • Housing Committee
  • Licensing Committee (Chair)

A single father, Ben lives in Queen's Park ward with his nine-year-old son.

Since May 2012 he has served as Chair of the Licensing Committee.

Ben was the Green Party's parliamentary candidate for Brighton Kemptown constituency in the May 2010 general election.

As a councillor, Ben speaks on policing, safer communities, human rights and sport.

From 2007 until it was abolished in 2012, Ben was also a member of the Sussex Police Authority (one of the few Green Party 'cop-watchers' in the UK).

Ben believes passionately in protecting welfare benefits and the NHS, animal rights, state education, improving housing standards, both in the 'social' housing sector and in bedsits and privately rented flats, and in eradicating child poverty and narrowing the gap between the richest and the least well-off in our city.

Ben was educated in Hastings, Leeds and London; most recently he completed a Masters' Degree in Human Rights at the University of London. He is a member of the GMB union – and the Green Party Trade Union group.
